The artist devised a circular system to numer-
ically represent each independence date. The dark red wall evokes the violent recent history of Angola. Angola declared itself fully indepen-
dent only when its brothers and sisters were also free. For this reason, it was essential to bring an end to Apartheid. Many Angolans lost their lives in the fight to achieve this shared goal.—For this reason, the intertwined dates of Angola’s independence and the date of South Africa’s first democratic election, which marked the end of Apartheid, were set against a darker red background.

A artista concebeu um sistema circular para representar numericamente cada data de independência. A parede vermelho-escuro evoca a violenta história recente de Angola. Angola declarou-se plenamente independente apenas quando os seus irmãos e irmãs também eram livres. Por essa razão, foi essencial pôr fim ao Apartheid. Muitos angolanos perderam a vida na luta para alcançar este objetivo comum. — Por essa razão, as datas entrelaçadas da inde-
pendência de Angola e da primeira eleição democrática na África do Sul, que marcou o fim do Apartheid, foram colocadas contra um fundo vermelho mais escuro.
