Certaines n’avaient jamais vu la mer 2012
Solo Exhibition — Os Sonhos do Embondeiro
May 17 — June 7, 2013
MNHN Siexpo, Luanda, Angola

This installation sets the tone for the exhibition Dreams of the Baobab, where the viewer senses being immersed in water. A regenerative ele-
ment here, at the same time as the sea symbol-
ises loss and distance, imposes a subtle and poetic reflection on the transatlantic slave trade. The title of this work was inspired by the French title of the novel Certaines n’avaient jamais vu la mer, by Julie Otsuka, who writes
in poetic language about the grace and will to survive of immigrants. (Suzana Sousa, curator)
