The Power of My Hands
April 20 — May 19, 2023
MNHN Luanda, Angola

The video Everything is Illuminated shows
a group of women crossing the nature around an abandoned farm in Kwanza-Sul at dusk, recalling the ancestral way of carrying weight, the porters of the explorers, the colonial era, migration in its various dimensions and the zungueiras (female street hawkers) of today. The female voice in the video, speaking ngangela, reminds us of the wise woman,
the tschimbanda.

The discovery of ancestral practices for the treatment of women‘s and children‘s bodies reveals connections between art, healing
and the spirit. An ethnological research of a Nganguela people during the colonial era is transformed into a performance that com-
municates rituals for the healing of the spirit and history, bringing to light another percep-
tion of the roles played by women. The per-
formers carry in their heads, not a burden
but illumination (knowledge).
A voz feminina do vídeo, falando ngangela, faz lembrar a mulher sábia, a tschimbanda.
